Our Safeguarding Commitment
TishAbility is committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of all the people we support, especially children and adults at risk. Everyone has the right to be safe and free from abuse, neglect, exploitation and harm.
What Is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding means protecting people from abuse, neglect and exploitation. This includes:
- • Physical abuse: Hitting, pushing, burning or any deliberate harm
- • Emotional/psychological abuse: Name-calling, threats, isolation, manipulation
- • Sexual abuse: Unwanted sexual contact, grooming, sexual exploitation
- • Financial abuse: Theft, fraud, coercion around money or possessions
- • Neglect: Failing to meet basic needs, provide agreed support, or respond to known safety or welfare concerns
- • Discriminatory abuse: Treating someone unfairly because of their identity or abilities
Our Policies & Practices
To ensure safeguarding, we:
- ✓ Vet all staff thoroughly (DBS checks, references, background checks)
- ✓ Provide regular safeguarding training to all staff
- ✓ Have clear policies for handling disclosures and concerns
- ✓ Work with families and professionals to identify and respond to concerns
- ✓ Report suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities (police, safeguarding teams)
- ✓ Ensure all staff understand their duty to report concerns
What Counts as a Safeguarding Concern
For safeguarding concerns, welfare concerns, risk concerns, unsafe practice concerns, or concerns about harm, abuse, neglect or exploitation, contact safeguarding@tishability.co.uk.
If there is an immediate risk of harm or an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service or local safeguarding service directly.
Safeguarding vs Complaints
Do not confuse safeguarding with complaints.
Complaints are for:
- • Service quality
- • Dissatisfaction with support
- • Communication issues
- • Compliments and feedback
Safeguarding is for:
- • Welfare concerns
- • Harm, abuse, neglect, exploitation
- • Unsafe practice
- • Serious risk
Reporting a Concern
If you're worried about someone's safety:
Please report it immediately. Your concern matters and will be taken seriously.
Do not delay. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services (999).
How to Report
You can report a safeguarding concern by:
- 1. Emailing safeguarding@tishability.co.uk
- 2. Completing the safeguarding concern form below
- 3. Contacting local safeguarding authorities directly (social services, police)
Confidentiality & Protection
We take confidentiality seriously and will only share information with relevant authorities (safeguarding teams, police, social services) when necessary to protect someone from harm. We will not share information with anyone else without consent, except in limited circumstances where there is a legal duty to do so.
If you report a concern, we will keep you informed about actions taken, within legal constraints around confidentiality.
